We arrived on Friday in Santa Maria, about 30 miles north of Lompoc and the heart of the Santa Barbara Pinot Noir region until the rise of Santa Rita Hills (*Sta. Rita Hills) in the late 90's and early 2000s. Richard Sanford, Wes Hagen and Brian Babcock spear-headed the creation of the Santa Rita Hills AVA. Since then a great number of new vineyards have been created in the region and production has grown to try to meet demand. There will be an article in September called "Sideways-Nowadays" that will chronicle events in the Santa Rita Hills, Santa Maria, Sant Ynez and Santa Barbara AVAs over the past 7-8 years. Clos Pepe Vineyards grapes are sold to many of the finest producers in California including Loring, Siduri, Ken Brown and others. The Clos Pepe Vineyard Select and regular estate bottlings are available as futures now. The 2005 are available for purchase at the website: www.clospepe.com

The reviews will be published soon under ratings. So check back in September.
