Hawk Hill Chardonnay

$55.00 | Stephen Tanzer 90
Hazy green-gold. Open-knit citrus and apple aromas complemented by an intriguing floral tone that builds with air. Lush and creamy, with full-blown Meyer lemon and lime flavors given depth by notes of toasty lees. Gently spicy and quite long, finishing on a note of mace, with bright acidity adding lift.

Heintz Chardonnay

Deep yellow. Rich, brooding, smoky bouquet of poached pear, orange, iodine and toasty lees. Deep and chewy on the palate, offering fleshy citrus and melon flavors and picking up bitter peach pit and orange zest with air. An impressively complex chardonnay that delivers a deft balance of power and energy, and finishes dry, firm and very long.

just 86 cases produced; a barrel selection from the Richard Dinner Vineyard) Zesty grapefruit skin, orange blossom and white flowers on the nose, along with strong vanilla and clove notes from the nearly 90% new oak. Tightly wound, spicy, dry and dominated by its structure. Dense and viscous but not fat. In fact, this recently bottled chardonnay is all spine today.

Green-gold. Smoky mango and yellow plum aromas are deepened by a spun sugar quality. Lush, leesy tropical fruit flavors offer good depth and chewy texture, with a light warm character building on the finish. This checks in at 16.4% alcohol but isn't outrageously ripe or loose-knit. And the finish refuses to let up.

2005 Aubert
Ritchie Vineyard Chardonnay
2 bottles available
$120.00 | Stephen Tanzer 96
Slightly hazy greenish-yellow color. Captivating, highly nuanced nose offers lime zest, lemon candy, nutmeg and crushed stone. Dense, thick and powerful, but for all its intensity this offers a magically light touch. The pineapple and crushed stone flavors are framed and intensified by sappy, perfectly integrated acidity and complicated by a leesy element. Boasts a truly three-dimensional texture that's rare for a dry white wine, not to mention extraordinary sweetness of fruit and length. Still quite young.

2003 Aubert
Ritchie Vineyard Chardonnay

$170.00 | Stephen Tanzer 95
Bright, pale yellow. Deep, highly complex nose melds grapefruit, pineapple, citrus skin, gunflint, light sulfides and a suggestion of charry oak. Then extremely intense in the mouth, with superb acidity giving definition to the powerful flavors. Wonderfully nuanced wine with strong mineral and soil tones. Savory rather than overly sweet. Aubert describes this as his version of Batard-Montrachet, saying it has more volume and acidity than the otherworldly 2002, which rated 96 points a year ago. I don't find this quite as tactile today but it may well be an even larger wine.
